July 30, 2011 - Ariel now Bella was adopted by Annette & David from New Hampshire. Annette writes: " Once again, my family and I would like to thank you and Kalen for all you did to help us adopt our newest family member.  “Bella” (aka Ariel) has been happy to go for leisurely walks with us, and likes to  watch the kids play.  She especially welcomed all the attention that came her way at this weekend’s family BBQ.  She loves to go for car rides,  and  enjoys the brook in the back yard.  Over all, Bella has acclimated very well to her new home J    We are all enjoying her company very much (She’s even winning over our cats who quite frankly, were MUCH less pleased with her introduction and gave her LOTS of feline attitude!!)   "

Sometimes we are reminded why we prefer dogs to people. All of the rescues - pretty much nationwide - got this email on Jun 13: "she was dropped off at the kill shelter today, i feel so bad  but had to move, heres  her  pictures  she was $7,500  a Real German import, gorgeous AKC  Reg,  thanks anyway,  if you want to adopt her  let me  know  she is  in brooklyn cacc, she is  very sweet  loves people and kids and not aggressive at all ." What the "owner" didn't say is that they are high risk breeders and that she was no longer of use to them.

Ariel has been overbred, is overweight and definitely wasn't a $7500 import. Pretty, she is, and sweet too... and now she's waiting for a life where puppy-sitting isn't her primary responsibility. This 3 year old rottie girl passed her evaluation with flying colors, is social with other dogs and people. Initial testing reveals that she may be able to live with cats.
